RKMS Group and ADIPS Unveil Groundbreaking Partnership for Amusement Industry Safety

ADIPS and RKMS announce partnership for IB audits

ADIPS and RKMS today announced a partnership to deliver a comprehensive auditing programme for inspection bodies in the amusements industry.

Established in 1994, RKMS is a leading training and consultancy business that brings a wealth of experience in providing compliance audits and support to some of the UK’s largest organisations, from Merlin Entertainments to Nissan UK. The Blackpool-based company’s current and past client list in the sector also includes Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterpark.

It now teams up with ADIPS, the UK amusement industry’s leading safety standards scheme, to deliver world class compliance audits and support for ADIPS inspections bodies nationwide.

With extensive contacts in the engineering and statutory inspection sector, RKMS has partnered with existing customers to provide expert support in mechanical, electrical and non-destructive testing of amusement devices.

John Keen, CEO of RKMS (pictured), said: “RKMS are delighted to partner with ADIPS on this prestigious project. We will be able to provide an effective, thorough but fair assessment of the inspection process for amusement devices and look forward to developing a working relationship with the various inspection bodies aligned with ADIPS.”

ADIPS General Manager Carl Hagemann said: “ADIPS is delighted to enter into a partnership with one of the country’s leading auditing companies. RKMS has a proven track record of delivering a high quality compliance service and together we will work with IBs to enhance safety standards for amusement devices on our theme parks, fairgrounds and piers, and our outdoor events. This really is a fantastic step forward not only for ADIPS, but for the amusements industry as a whole.”

About ADIPS

ADIPS, the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme, serves as the adopted standard for inspecting and certifying fairground rides and amusement devices within the industry. Formed by major trade associations in collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ADIPS aims to enhance safety standards and instill public confidence.

Previously, the industry lacked a unified standard, leading to varied inspection practices and a lack of oversight. This prompted the creation of ADIPS to ensure that fairground rides are operated and maintained properly and safely.

Health and safety laws mandate regular inspections by competent individuals, but the specifics were unclear. In response, major trade associations, with input from the HSE, developed clear inspection procedures for amusement devices, resulting in the establishment of ADIPS as the national scheme for inspection and certification.

Registered inspection bodies (IBs) conduct ADIPS inspections, ensuring their competence through ongoing assessment. The outcome of a successful inspection is a Declaration of Operational Compliance (DOC), serving as a guarantee that the device has been certified as safe to operate by an independent and competent IB.

ADIPS is managed by the Amusement Device Safety Council (ADSC), comprising representatives from major trade associations, and operated by ADIPS Ltd., a not-for-profit company. Any surplus generated by ADIPS Ltd. is reinvested to improve services or enhance health and safety standards in the industry.

RKMS Group Puts Blackpool and the Wider Fylde Coast on the Networking Map

RKMS Group Puts Blackpool and the Wider Fylde Coast on the Networking Map

Almost a month down the line since inviting Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde coast businesses to the first RKMS network event.

The morning which ran from 9.30am – 11.30am from our Blackpool based Training Centre located at the enterprise zone, saw a number of brilliant business owners and senior leaders come together to discus local topics, network and hear about other businesses within the area.

We had a number of local companies and local up-and-coming initiatives take centre stage to spread their knowledge.

RKMS discussed the hot topic of Carbon Neutrality, after our recent success in achieving PAS 2060 and becoming the first 3rd party certificated business in Blackpool.

Terry Hodkinson from Blackpool Carers was able to spread the word about the amazing work they do for the local community and ways in which people and business can get involved, which resulted in some brilliant conversations on the day and since then Warren Langford of Lab Creative and Helen Houghton of Multi-ply Components have continued discussions on how they can get involved.

Lastly Sam Smith from the ‘I Can Trust’ network told us about all the work they are doing to improve the lives of our younger generation and the initiative that he will be building up locally.

We have received so much positive feedback, here is what some of the attendees had to say….

What was the best part of the event and why?

Stephanie Evans, Imperial hotel – I enjoyed learning about the other people there and what they do; it was lovely hearing some attendees offering their support to their peers during the introductions.

Paula Davis, Coastal Radio – The Networking (and Danish’s!)

Jane Fillis, Harrison Drury – variety of interesting speakers

Any other comments/ Feedback / Testimonial

Warren Langford, Lab Creative – The event was excellent, since starting my business I have been to so many events – some good, some bad… yours was great, very welcoming and I have already made some good connections and some strong partnerships to come from this (Blackpool Carers and Sam Smith and his initiatives).

Helen Houghton, Multi-Ply Components Ltd – The event was extremely beneficial for us and whilst not all material was relevant to our industry, it was great to meet likeminded professionals and of those connections we met on the day, we are extremely grateful to have been able to join! A big thank you again for the invitation and for making it such a fantastic event!

Rebecca Keen, The Operations Director at RKMS Group mentions.

“As a business whose foundations are firmly established in the local and wider Lancashire community, we were amazed at the uptake of how many attendees came through the RKMS doors, it shows just how positive, and our community is.”

Josh Reilly, Lead Project Manager at RKMS Group goes on to say.

“Working with many businesses across the Fylde Coast, it was a delight to meet so many contacts face to face, including Ian mallam from local business Digitav”

The idea of this networking group is to create a sense of community for local businesses, a place for locals to come together, not only to build working relationships but to identify ways to help the local community, we have discussed ways in which we can help from beach clean ups, clearing the streets of weeds to grocery shopping for the elderly community.

RKMS want to make a difference and are driven by creating a circular economy.

After the success of this first event, we put it out to vote, if people would like it to become a regular occurrence and we received a resounding YES response!

So, we will be looking to run these events each quarter, further details will be announced in the coming months. We look forward to launching our next event with the support of the local business community.

Blackpool’s RKMS Group is Officially “Carbon Neutral”

Blackpool’s RKMS Group is Officially “Carbon Neutral”

RKMS Group have been independently verified by Centre for Assessment Ltd, a leading UKAS accredited Certification Body, as being Carbon Neutral.

“We are delighted to have gained independent third-party certification to the Carbon Neutrality standard PAS 2060.

We believe we are the first organisation in the area to achieve this. RKMS group has always been at the forefront of certification holding ISO 9001 since the company was formed in 1994 and adding ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 in 2009.”

John A Keen, CEO, RKMS Group

PAS 2060 is a publicly available standard for carbon neutrality and is the only internationally recognised standard that enables businesses to demonstrate carbon neutrality claims.

There are 5 main stages to carbon neutrality. The first stage is to define the scope of the inventory. This is simply stating what control approach you are using, what the subject is and the locations to be included.

It presents four key stages to carbon neutrality. The second stage is to measure your carbon footprint by recoding your activity or usage data and applying an appropriate conversion factor. Thirdly, you should then look at reducing your emissions. The best place to start are what we call “hotspots”, these are simply the areas of the business with the most emissions. The fourth stage is to offset any residual emissions. There are various schemes that can be used to prove offsetting and these translate into carbon credits to offset against your carbon footprint hence achieving neutrality. The fifth and final stage is to document everything. You have to publish a Qualifying Explanatory Statement (QES), maintain a GHG inventory and keep evidence of your emissions.

The RKMS Group have been reducing their carbon footprint for a number of years and have developed an online platform that allows clients to comply with statutory & regulatory requirements as well as a host of Internationally recognised standards.

Our platform was initially developed to assist companies comply with Primary Authority legislation, with Ladbrokes being the main client at the time.  During the pandemic we needed to change our business to ensure we could support clients, this has resulted in a major change to our business model where SaaS is now our main focus. This allows us to deliver services on a remote basis with a monthly subscription model.

During 2020 when the lockdown was at its peak RKMS managed to secure business with a number of Saudi Arabian government organisations, Saudi Customs, Saudi Food & Drug Enforcement agency and the Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation. Over 11,000 individuals took part in online webinar based training sessions focussing on subjects such as lean management techniques and a range of standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 17020.

We estimate our platform has saved in excess of 100 tCO2e through reduced travel and reduced use of paper. It also has the benefit of improving our teams work life balance. 100 tCO2e is equivalent to 230 times around the world in car miles or 25Bn plastic straws!

RKMS Group provide consultancy support to organisations to achieve certification to international standards such as ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental, ISO 45001 H&S, ISO 27001 Information Security & PAS 2060 Carbon Neutrality to name a few.

We also provide training in statutory requirements such as Health and Safety, First Aid and Fire Safety.
