ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems

With ever increasing legislation such as the Climate Change Levy, Carbon reduction Commitment combined with the pressure for carbon reduction through sustainability and resource efficiency the standard provides a framework to meet these requirements, having your system certified by an independent certification body demonstrates your commitment to customers and stakeholders.

The standard specifies the requirements for an Energy Management System (EnMS) to enable your organization to develop and implement a policy, identify significant areas of energy consumption and target energy reductions. As well as enhancing energy efficiency, an EnMS can cut costs and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions providing you with a competitive advantage.

An organisation that implements the standard needs to establish, implement, maintain and improve an energy management system. When the system is mature, energy management becomes integrated into day-to-day responsibilities and activities.

The Energy Management System is structured in a similar manner to the Environmental Management System, ISO14001. Organisations that have already implemented or plan to implement ISO14001 can integrate the requirements of both management systems to enable a more efficient implementation process while ensuring that a company benefits from the continued value-add of the management system, in the form of reduced energy costs.
